Hachiware Eating Watermelon Fuse Bead Pattern: Free 31×28 Grid

  • 586 beads
  • 6 colours
  • 31 × 28 grid
  • Easy
  • 2.6mm mini beads
In short: this free fuse bead pattern shows the head of Hachiware, the little cat from Chiikawa with a blue fringe, biting into a watermelon. It uses 586 mini 2.6mm beads in 6 colours on a 31 × 28 grid. Once ironed, it measures about 8.1 × 7.3 cm and fits on a single 52 × 52 pegboard. All colour codes are MARD codes, compatible with Artkal and Hama mini beads.

Hachiware is instantly recognisable by the blue V-shaped fringe, here with a slice of watermelon in its mouth. Six colours, large white areas and a crisp brown outline: the pattern is easy to bead. Make it with Chiikawa and Usagi to complete the series.

How to make Hachiware with watermelon with fuse beads

  1. Get the grid ready. Print the grid in colour or display it on a tablet next to your 52 × 52 pegboard.
  2. Prepare your beads and tools. Gather the 6 colours in the pattern (H02, G08, C06, F05, E15, B16), a 52 × 52 pegboard, bent-tip tweezers, ironing paper and an iron.
  3. Start with the outline in wine red (G08). Place it with bent-tip tweezers, following the grid row by row. It draws the silhouette and guides everything else.
  4. Fill the large areas. Use white (H02), deep sky blue (C06) and dark cherry (F05).
  5. Add the details. Finish with the small touches: baby pink (E15) and pistachio (B16).
  6. Iron. Cover the pattern with ironing paper, iron on medium heat without steam. Move in small circles for 10 to 20 seconds until the beads fuse. Let it cool under a book so your piece stays flat.
